Graychalk.com is a completely personal domain. I’ve created a whole lot of websites in the past, but they had always been focused on an interest, a hobby, or a service of some kind. With the kind of personality I have, it’s sometimes hard to reconcile all the different aspects of my life. This site is my attempt at doing so, hence my reason for also calling it Misplaced Pieces.
Graychalk.com was registered in August 2006 through Dreamhost with their free domain offer when I switched my hosting provider to DH. As previously mentioned, the domain was semi-active in a private state but remained offline to the world until about the beginning of April 2009 when I finally brought it online. A couple of blog posts have tagged along for the ride, but a majority of it was left out.
Graychalk initially surfaced as my private Livejournal account where a majority of the posts are more personal in nature and friends-locked. It was my way to keep in touch with various friends.
I originally thought of the name, in part as an alternate complement to colorfilter, which was my graphics-related identity. I have a fascination with colors and the artist in me always notice the colors in everything. Yet at the same time, I also love the different shades of gray in life so I knew I wanted graysomething for a personal journal. Chalk then came along partially because of my love for art, but also because of the residue it leaves behind when used. It’s like the pieces in my life and scraps I’m left with at the end of the day. It was then only a matter of time before I registered it as a personal domain as well.
The main portion of this site and my choice CMS is Expression Engine. All graphics are done with either Adobe Photoshop CS or Adobe Illustrator CS on my beloved Mac computer.
The current layout features illustrations I’ve kept from the old fashion design job/work I did some years back.
