Discovering the Anna K. Tarot Deck

Posted on Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at 01:58 am

For years now, I had suggested to my sister every so often that she could consider picking up the Tarot. I often give her readings, and she had always shown a lot of interest in it but didn’t really have much confidence in being able to read. She’s what my family often joke as being hopelessly out of tune (both sides of my family have a history of women showing various “psychic” capabilities), even though I thought she could still give it a try if she was truly interested. So anyway, after a little reading session earlier and yet another push from me to learn the Tarot language, we decided to go on AT to browse the numerous decks… which, by the way, took hours because for every deck she liked, I went hunting around for sites that showed the cards of the whole deck.

We eventually narrowed it down to about 5 decks until I realized that all but one was either out of print or really hard to get a hold of. The remaining choice turned out to be a self-published deck called Anna K. (link leads to Aeclectic Tarot’s deck description page). Maybe it’s because I was really tired from all the deck hunting, but it didn’t particularly catch my attention. It looked interesting… but just didn’t immediately make me hone in on it. The important thing is my sister’s in love with it so then we found our way to her site where we could view all the cards… which of course spelt my doom because I only just recently told myself that I wasn’t going to buy any more tarot decks for a while (until maybe the end of the year).

Yes, I really want this deck too! I absolutely love the way she portrayed the cards- the ones that come to mind right now are 10 of Swords, 8 of Swords, and Judgment… but seriously, looking through the photos of her cards is like discovering one treasure after another. They’re so communicative and expressive- the type of deck that has a more real quality to the pictures and would be so easy to read. It’s been a long time since I had fallen this hard for a deck. You should all go take a look. In the meantime, I’ve got some serious thinking to do. If it was a mass-produced deck, I could always just wait and get it at the end of the year as I’ve promised myself… but Anna’s only got 500 decks printed and already, she’s been getting tons of orders from what I’m hearing at the AT forum. Oh, what to do!

Spread: The Career Plant

Posted on Sunday, March 08, 2009 at 12:16 pm

This was a spread I created a couple of years back when I was doing a reading for a client who wanted to know more about his current job, where it was going to take him, the potential growth and whether this was a suitable career path for him in the long run. It ended up working out so well that I’ve used it over and over since, with really accurate and insightful results. I posted it on AT before but I thought I’d share here too. It was created for Tarot usage, but as with most spreads, I think it should work well with other types of cards too. If you ever give it a run, let me know how it goes!

I’ve named it The Career Plant, because it just fits. The spread uses 9 to 10 cards and the layout goes like this:

The scene is common enough, and at the very least, something that movies have portrayed time and time again in one romance movie or another. It usually goes something like this…

Deck: Morgan Greer Tarot
Spread: Daily 3 - Overall-Inner-Outer

I tend to go through phases on how I like to do my Tarot daily draws, but it’s usually how I feel would work best for my life at the time. Lately, I’ve taken to doing 3 cards for positions Overall, Inner, and Outer, and the results have been quite insightful- especially in hindsight. Here are the cards I drew for today:
