Got My First Lenormand Deck + Book!

I had been wanting to try the Lenormand Oracle for a long time now but haven’t had the chance to get a deck for myself as it’s kind of difficult obtaining one where I live. Last week, I found that I could get the Blue Owl + Sylvie Steinbach’s book (The Secrets of the Lenormand Oracle) together for a fairly good price with shipping to my location so I jumped at the chance. I didn’t expect it to arrive this quickly though- only 6 days including the weekend! I was literally skipping when I saw the brown package sitting inside my mailbox. :D

Blue Owl
I have a little blue pouch for it too!

I haven’t “played” with my new goodies yet, but I thought I’d share my first impressions. (Yes, I admit it’s mainly because I’m giddy and feel the need to express my excitement even if it’s just some initial thoughts.)

  1. The deck is tiny! I knew it was only 36 cards and I knew it was roughly the size of regular playing cards, but I was still taken aback anyway by how small they felt in my hands. Then again, it’s likely also because I handle tarot cards on a daily basis and my hands are probably more accustomed to the larger stack of cards.
  2. I’m happy with the backs of the cards. Yay! I have a thing about the back designs of cards, and I’ve found that I really do need to be okay with the backs for me to be able to read with them properly. The backs of the Blue Owl is fairly classic looking- nothing extravagant or distracting, which is how I would prefer them to be. The little owl in the middle is cute though it would’ve been nice if there was no orientation (no right side up or upside down), but it’s not a complaint.
  3. I’ve only just flipped through Sylvie’s book, so I don’t have much to say about it except for the fact that I was expecting to see at least some illustrations but there was none at all. That and the paper stock of the cover must be really thin, because it’s developed quite a stubborn bend/arc outwards after just casually looking through the book. Let’s hope it doesn’t fall apart before I get the chance to really go through it.

I’ll probably post more about my thoughts on the book once I’ve had a real chance to read at least a good portion of it. In all honesty, I’m a bit iffy about Sylvie’s book. I’ve heard a lot of conflicting opinions on her book, method, and way of teaching… some of which didn’t sound right to me, so I did a lot of debating as to whether I should pick it up or not. The problem, though, is also the lack of available English resources when it comes to the Lenormand so it’s not like I have that much choice if I want a good solid place to start. In the end, I went for it because I was able to get it for a fairly good price and thought it couldn’t hurt to give it a chance. Either way, I can’t wait to finally get started on the Lenormand!
