Deck: Gipsy Fortune Telling Cards - Zigeuner Wahrsagekarten
Spread: General 5-Card Draw
I mentioned before that this blog would probably eventually be expanded to include various other oracle cards I use as well, so I thought it was about time I actually post something. I’ve just been a little wrapped up in the Lenormand lately as you all can see. :p
Anyhow, today I’m sharing a reading using the Gypsy Fortune Telling Cards (Zigeuner Wahrsagekarten). Like the Lenormand, there are 36 cards total but they’re not numbered nor do they have playing card insets. This was a reading I did last week as a complement to the Lenormand “try-out” reading I tested with my Journey spread (which I’ll also be adding soon).

The cards are Death + Sadness + Loss + Some Money + Judge
The topic is a general reading regarding love (look, not about work! lol). Once you see my Lenormand and Tarot reading using the Journey spread, I’m sure you’ll understand my feeling of dry amusement when I saw these cards. Well, at the very least, the cards sure know how to drill the same message home regardless which oracle or deck.
Loss being the main focus of the reading talks about things not being the way I had hoped them to be. It also carries the feeling of defeat, almost like one has given up. I think this fits in well, because if I was honest, I’ve sort of been in a stage where I wonder if I’d ever find happiness in love. Sadness also reinforces this, as she’s often about wanting and longing for something.
Death in this deck is very much like the Tarot’s Death card. It represents the ending of things and cycles, often times bringing along lessons to be learned and also new beginnings. A few months ago, I went through the Death phase and also an ending of a relationship so the appearance of this card was expected. However, I also think I’m still at the backlash stage. As with all endings and life shifts, there would be an adjustment period and lots of reflecting. Sadness sitting right next to it is a part of that.
The lady in Sadness is faced towards Death and mourning the ending, contemplating about where things will go now even as she can’t help but feel let down (Loss). And though this phase is expected, there’s also a double message and an advice here as well in her body language. Don’t start having too much of a defeatist attitude or begin dwelling too much on all that was lost or could have been!
Some Money to me sometimes means not enough. It’s not necessarily loss, but it’s not exactly a gain either. It might be more accurate to say one is just getting by, sometimes barely. For that reason, this card can also be about being reserved. Here, I think it plays off the meaning of Loss too so that should be taken into consideration. In Loss, the man has just lost his money in a game of cards. Some Money following tells me that he didn’t lose it all… but it’d cause him to be more reserved in betting the little that he has left.
The message here, I think, is two-fold. In a way, it shows the journey that I’m on… this feeling of being wary and reserved. There’s also the feeling of having one’s options limited. Looking at it another way, it’s also telling me that all is not lost. There is still some hope left even if it may not feel like a lot or enough right now.
The final card is Judge, and its message is not new to me. I’ve been getting very similar messages in many of my readings (and not just about love). The Judge is often about evaluating something, and here, I believe it’s telling me that I have to take some time to figure things out for myself. What do I really want? What am I really looking for? And I take that advice to heart because as much as I may hope for happiness in love, I also know I’m not ready and shouldn’t even think of being in a relationship (Sadness) until I’ve “settled from the dust” that Death has left behind.
When the Judge appears after a Death phase, it’s often an important message about reevaluating where you stand once again… because chances are, there would be adjustments that need to be made. There always is after Death.
Excellent commentary on these cards :)
I especially like your take on the Some Money and Judge cards.
Something I’m going to have to remember when these cards show up again for me.
The only other thought that I had, was that maybe with being reserved in you ways at the moment, you are also more critical/picky to what might come? and that being because you’re still in the shifting over the past stage…. does that make sense?

Hi, thanks very much for your comments! I’m glad you found something in my take of the cards that you might be able to use in your own readings. :)
And thank you for the extra insight! It definitely makes sense to me, because the Judge can be critical too because he’s also all about analyzing something. I can certainly see myself being more picky and critical during this stage… :p
Your comment actually reminded me of something that occurred to me in hindsight as I was looking at the cards the day after posting them here and was considering on adding as an update. Because the Judge is looking a bit to the left, I had seen the critical aspect to add another layer to what Loss was saying. Perhaps it’s also reprimanding me to “play my cards right” so to speak… to also analyze myself and my own actions and to realize that the fault also lies in my own doing. Relationships are such tricky things after all. It’s hardly ever just one person being the cause of something failing (as much as one may sometimes feel as though they were the victim).
Much thanks again! I’m going to add the updated thoughts soon. :)
