It’s only been a few weeks since I started on the Lenormand, but I’m finding myself wondering how best to really approach this. I’m almost done with reading Sylvie’s The Secrets of the Lenormand Oracle, and I’ve also been visiting a lot of blogs and sites. A few days ago, I even went ahead and purchased the Treppner course so I’ve been perusing the PDFs too.
I know the most common advice is to choose one system and stick to it, at least in the beginning. It makes a lot of sense (not just for the Lenormand but also playing cards, etc.), but I also happen to be the type who likes to absorb information from all over the place and then formulate something that makes the most sense to me personally. Usually, it becomes a mixture of everything I’ve absorbed, but a lot of times, it’s also something that’s completely random and personal to me alone.
Right now, I’m a bit confused with how I feel about the differences in the various systems, especially in the card meanings or combos… which is something I expected to happen when I decided to do my Lenormand studies via the “multiple systems at once” approach. However, I also realized today that I’m glad this is happening now in the beginning. When I read, instinct and immediate impressions play a rather large role because they usually turn out to be right. But with instincts and immediate impressions, the thing that throws me in a loop is any nagging doubt I may have lingering at the back of my mind. Discovering conflicting meanings in different systems now forces me to decide what the card really means to me rather than bring up any doubts later when I’ve already tried my best to stick to one system’s meanings. Second-guessing myself at a later date when I’m more “established” in my reading would just end up throwing me several steps backwards, especially if I have to redefine some meanings.
So anyway, I guess I’m liking that I have a couple of systems on hand to cross-reference instead of sticking solely to one even if the process of learning in the initial stage might take longer due to the confusion. That said, I’m thinking I might start to do some experimental readings… lots and lots of readings. I’ve mostly only been doing daily 3-card draws, which I’m finding to be either completely spot on in the weirdest ways or it just flies over my head and I’m unable to make any connection whatsoever. With dailies, it’s bound to be tricky because sometimes there really isn’t anything to say about a day (at least for me, because my life can be rather uneventful on most days). Perhaps, I should start expanding a little… jump into the deep end, so to speak. I do learn best by doing after all.
For you new (or old) Lenormand readers out there, what was the most useful and productive way for you to learn?
