Spread: The Career Plant

Posted on Sunday, March 08, 2009 at 12:16 pm

This was a spread I created a couple of years back when I was doing a reading for a client who wanted to know more about his current job, where it was going to take him, the potential growth and whether this was a suitable career path for him in the long run. It ended up working out so well that I’ve used it over and over since, with really accurate and insightful results. I posted it on AT before but I thought I’d share here too. It was created for Tarot usage, but as with most spreads, I think it should work well with other types of cards too. If you ever give it a run, let me know how it goes!

I’ve named it The Career Plant, because it just fits. The spread uses 9 to 10 cards and the layout goes like this:

Career Plant

Breakdown of Layout:

Card 1. The Root: the basis of which the plant is currently growing on- for depicting the current state or aspects of the job

Card 2. The Seed: what the plant has originally grown from- for depicting the past influences or aspects of the job

Card 3. The Earth: how the plant will grow- for depicting the near future aspects of the job

Card 4. The Stem: this is the querent- for depicting what his feelings will be like on/at/about the job. It represents his mood, views, and how the job will affect him personally.

Card 5. Wilting Leaves: that which will not grow well- for the negative aspects of the job

Card 6. Flourishing Leaves: that which will grow well- for the positive aspects of the job

Card 7. Further Growth: the potential of this job, where it can/will take him and what possibilities can be in store for him at this job

Card 8. Mother Nature (crosses the 7th card): this signifies the influences that should be read in relation to the growth of the previous card- it can be for good or for bad. It is the environment, the influences, the assistance that often cannot be controlled.

Card 9. The Flower: this is the outcome and the destination of his path. It may also reveal whether his current job is suitable for him in the long run.

Card 10. Water (optional): If you need more insights or maybe a clarification on whether his current job will be something that factors into his long-term career, then this card should help reveal what wasn’t said in the 9th card. It may also reveal what a suitable career for him might be, if his current one isn’t it.

That’s all. Enjoy!

Hi Kali,

Thanks for visiting my blog! I’m so glad you liked it and also found it useful. :) Keeping this blog has been invaluable for my own Lenormand learning, so it’s really great to hear that someone else got something out of it too.

As for this spread- you’re right, it certainly could be used for something other than the career only. Maybe romance or any kind of goal, etc. :) I haven’t tried it with the Lenormand yet, but that sounds great! A lot of extra info could probably also be obtained by reading combos too.

In terms of representative cards, I think it can go either way. If one were to be chosen, it’d probably take the place of card #1… or maybe even #4 with a little alteration. Either way, if no focus card is chosen, I would read whatever pops up in #1 and #4 as the key focus of the reading.

If you do end up giving this a go, please let me know how it turns out!

Tea
